Chances preschool program moving to St. Jean

The Chances preschool program is moving from its location in West Kent Elementary to another Charlottetown school a few blocks away.

The last day at West Kent will be June 23. Children and staff will move into their new space at St. Jean School on June 26.

The move was necessary to make space for more than 100 new French immersion students coming to West Kent at the start of the next school year.

38 children

The move affects 38 children enrolled in Chances Smart Start, a program designed to ease the transition into kindergarten for children and their families.

Two of Erin Kiley's children are enrolled in the program.

"It will be a change for sure. My oldest son has been here for two years now, and my other son has been here for over a year and a half, a year or so, and they both enjoy this location, and they have their friends here and their teacher."

Program the same

While parents like Kiley are sad to be leaving West Kent, they are also relieved to know the program, and the staff their children are familiar with, will be the same.

"Everybody kind of knew with French immersion coming into the school, space was limited, so now that they know the program's going to continue, they know exactly where we're going, it's not that far away," said Ann Robertson.
