Charges laid after shotgun, drugs seized Wetaskiwin traffic stop

Wetaskiwin RCMP have arrested and charged three people after a gun was seized from a vehicle in Wetaskiwin.

RCMP Officers stopped a Mazda 3 for a violation of the vehicle equipment regulation while conducting a proactive patrol in the city, police said in a media release on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

During the traffic stop, officers saw open alcohol in the vehicle.

In the vehicle, police located a stolen KSG Shotgun with ammunition in the back seat as well as a small amount of suspected Methamphetamine.

An RCMP spokesman said that the gun was stolen during a break-and-enter at a house in the Town of Morinville in 2017.

Following the investigation, RCMP have charged Wetaskiwin residents Casey Okeymow, 23, and Jake Ernest Green, 39 with four counts of weapon offenses, possession of the stolen property under $5,000, failure to comply with release conditions, and possession of a firearm contrary to order.

Okeymow and Green were remanded into custody, with their next court date set for Feb. 27, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.

Police have also charged a Maskwacis resident Alison Nepoose, 38 with four counts of weapon offences and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

Nepoose was taken before a justice of the peace and released from custody with her next court date set for Feb. 27, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.
