Charles Barkley shreds Republican tax bill: 'I'm going to ... get me a new Rolex'

Never one to mince words, TNT NBA personality and basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley used a gift exchange with his studio mates on Thursday to roast the much-criticized GOP tax bill that passed Congress this week and was signed into law by President Donald Trump on Friday.

The law is viewed by analysts as a transfer of wealth from the poor and middle class to the rich, a point that Barkley seized on, using his signature humor in the process.

“I’m going to trickle my fat ass down to the jewelry store to get me a new Rolex,” Barkley said while laughing to Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O’Neal.

Mocking the idea that tax cuts for the wealthy will provide an economic boost for the working and lower classes, Barkley, a very rich man, continued.

“They’re not gonna pass it to nobody,” he said of the money from his planned luxury purchase. “Thank you, Republicans. I know I can always count on ya’ll to take care of us rich people and one percenters. Sorry, poor people. I’m hoping for ya’ll, but ya’ll ain’t got no chance.”

It’s the second recent foray into politics for Barkley after he stumped for Doug Jones against Roy Moore in this month’s special U.S. Senate election in Alabama.

“We’ve got to stop looking like idiots,” Barkley urged Alabamians who were considering voting for Moore, who was caught up in sex scandal involving teenage girls. Jones was elected the next day.
