Charlottetown mayoralty candidate Philip Brown opens campaign office

Charolottetown mayoralty candidate Philip Brown opened his campaign office Friday and laid out four key campaign promises.

Brown wants to implement legislation that would limit the number of terms a mayor could serve to two. Current mayor Clifford Lee is seeking his fourth term as mayor.

Brown thinks some new blood is needed.

"It's been a flat-lined administration, I want to put new energy into it....those ideas, new blood, new people and I think that will create a more active and dynamic council,” he said.

Another campaign promise is the banning cosmetic lawn pesticides in favour of organic alternatives.

Brown is also calling for a five per cent tax reduction on commercial and residential properties.

Brown’s final promise is to create a pollution control authority that would close sewage lagoons in the greater Charlottetown area.

Former MLA Alan Buchanan believes Brown can win.

"I think there is a great interest in change," he said. "The current mayor has already served three terms and you know, perhaps after a period of time, there needs to be new ideas, fresh ideas and fresh enthusiasm, which Philip certainly brings."

This is Brown’s second attempt at running for mayor.
