Chatham-Kent police are urging people to stay away from the Thames River due to flooding.

They say heavy rain in the area has caused "significant flooding" of the river.

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority has also issued a flood watch. The St. Clair watershed is "completely saturated" and water levels across the region are elevated, according to the conservation authority.

Individuals are reminded to stay away from flooded areas as slippery banks and cold, fast moving water can be dangerous.

Police say updates will come from Chatham-Kent emergency services' social media pages.
