Check your numbers, $3 million-winning Mega Millions ticket was sold in South Carolina

A seven-figure prize-winning Mega Millions ticket was recently sold in South Carolina, according to state Education Lottery officials. Now the search is on for the $3 million prize winner.

The winning ticket was sold at a gas station/convenience store in North Charleston, lottery officials said in a news release.

The winning Mega Millions game was bought at the Quickpantry at 5830 Dorchester Rd., according to the release.

The ticket sold in the Lowcountry matched all five white ball numbers drawn, but fell short of the ultimate jackpot because it didn’t have the same gold Megaball number, officials said.

The winning numbers from last Friday’s drawing were 26, 28, 29, 39, 49 and Megaball: 25.

Because the player bought the Megaplier option for an additional $1, the million-dollar prize was tripled when 3 was drawn for the Megaplier, according to the release.

It was the only Match 5 plus Megaplier win in the U.S., according to the Mega Millions website.

The winner has 180 days to claim the prize, according to lottery officials.

The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of eight states — along with Delaware, Kansas, Georgia, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and Texas — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.

The odds of matching all five white balls for the $1 million prize are 1-in-12,607,306, according to the release. The chances of a 3 being selected as the Megaplier are 1-in-2.5.

“Sign the back of your ticket and put it in a safe location until you’re ready to come forward to claim the prize,” lottery officials said.

In addition to the $3 million winning game, more than 10,000 other players in South Carolina won prizes in Friday’s drawing, according to the release.

The next Mega Millions drawing will be held Tuesday, when the jackpot is estimated to be $272 million.
