Cheesed off: Saskatoon man fed up with Kraft Dinner boxes

A Saskatoon man is on a mission to make the world a better place, one Kraft Dinner box at a time.

After years of breaking into his mac 'n' cheese with a knife, Glenn Pancyr is fed up.

He says the perforated tab on the box, which invites diners to "press in tear back top" to get to the noodles inside, is too tough to open with just a thumb.

"I'm thinking, how many people have stabbed themselves trying to get this box open? What about all the gel nails that have been lost?" said Pancyr.

"Like, how can a company show such disdain for their customers by not just perforating the tab?"

Pancyr wrote to Kraft Heinz urging them to improve the perforation on the tab to make it easier for thumbs to squeeze inside.

He said he received a response from the company saying they would look into it. When he wrote back again, he said they offered him a coupon.

'False hope'

"I wrote back and said, you know, 'you can keep the coupon,'" said Pancyr.

"Either take the label off the box because it gives us false hope that we can actually open it with our thumbs, or perforate the openings so we can actually get it open."

Pancyr told CBC Radio's Saskatoon Morning he's since written again and called the company's customer service number.

Kraft Heinz said in an email its packaging was made with the public's health and safety in mind.

"The perforations are designed not to open too easily and spoil your meal before you are ready to enjoy it," said vice-president of corporate and legal affairs Av Maharaj.
