Cher says Donald Trump will make good on 'shooting someone' in New York City following his clemency spree
Cher has warned that Donald Trump will make good on his promise to "shoot someone on 5th Avenue" in New York City following his clemency spree.
In a tweet the 73-year-old singer, a vocal critic of the president, mentioned Mr Trump’s previous comment that he could easily get away with shooting someone.
“Tired of hearing ppl say ‘THIS IS UNPRECEDENTED,’ every time the’ [nut] Job In Chief’ steps over a line that’s NEVER been crossed,” she wrote. “SOON the crazy fk will shoot someone on 5th Ave, & say ’I could have done this before, I just chose not to.’ [America], he’s your [baby], rock him.”
Mr Trump made an infamous claim on the 2016 campaign trail that he could probably shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose a single supporter.
Whether the president was serious about the claim or not, it left an impression on voters about the commitment Trump supporters show the man they helped elect.
Included with Cher’s tweet was a link to a Washington Post article about the president declaring himself the “chief law enforcement officer” of America on Tuesday following backlash over the 11 political allies and executives he offered pardons or commuted their sentences this week.
The president addressed his ability to interfere with the justice system when leaving Washington DC on Tuesday for a trip to California, Nevada and Arizona.
“I’m allowed to be totally involved,” he said. “I’m actually, I guess, the chief law enforcement officer of the country. But I’ve chosen not to be involved.”
Among those offered clemency by the president was former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, a Democrat who previously appeared on the Celebrity Apprentice. The governor was in prison for eight of his 14-year sentence on charges of attempting to sell Barack Obama’s Senate seat after the president was elected in 2008.
Former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr also received a pardon on Tuesday. He had pleaded guilty in 1998 to failing to report a felony in a bribery case. Mr DeBartolo did not serve jail time, but he was required to pay $1m in fines.

Besides critiquing Mr Trump’s recent actions, Cher also put her support behind former Vice President Joe Biden in his bid to be the next president.
She tweeted out luck to the Democratic candidate ahead of the Nevada debate.
“I WON'T turn my back on you now that you're struggling," Cher wrote, calling Mr Biden a “wise” and “kind” man. "Your head is bloodied but unbowed.”
