Cheryl Hines slams Biden for not providing RFK Jr. security detail
Actress Cheryl Hines slammed President Biden for not providing a security detail to her husband, presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., in comments Friday.
Hines joined TMZ to speak about the intruder who was arrested twice Wednesday after trying to break into her home with RFK Jr. in Los Angeles.
“Yes, you’re right I’m being careful about my words because you know, I respect President Biden and the administration and at the same time, it feels like it’s a political strategy,” the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star said.
The presidential candidate said that his previous requests to the Department of Homeland Security for a security detail had been denied. RFK Jr. dropped out of the Democratic primary against Biden earlier this month and announced his bid as an Independent.
The Secret Service is authorized to protect major presidential and vice-presidential candidates and their spouses within 120 days of a general presidential election. The Homeland Security secretary and an advisory committee from the House and Senate decide which candidates are in that “major” category.
In Sept. an armed man impersonating a U.S. marshal was arrested at one of RFK Jr.’s campaign events in Los Angeles.
Hines criticized the Biden administration for turning down both of RFK Jr.’s requests.
“I’m not sure what it’s going to take,” she said. “So, it’s hard. It’s really disappointing.”
