Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes put safety first during in-game interview: ‘I might be ran over’

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes suited up for the Chiefs’ preseason game Saturday against the Cleveland Browns, but he didn’t play in KC’s 33-32 victory.

Nevertheless, Mahomes still showed his ability to avoid taking a big hit.

It came in the second half of the game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium when Mahomes was being interviewed by former Chiefs quarterback Trent Green during the TV broadcast.

As Mahomes was talking, teammate Dicaprio Bootle intercepted a pass and his return took him toward the Chiefs sideline. Mahomes kept a keen eye on the return to make sure he was out of harm’s way.

“Oh doggone there’s an interception. Hold up,” Mahomes said, “I might be ran over. I saw big 74 running at me; I had to get out of the way.”

This was a funny moment from the game.

Mahomes was wise to steer clear of the action that was potentially headed his way, because No. 74 is Browns tackle Dawand Jones. He’s a 6-foot-8-inch rookie from Ohio State who weighs 374 pounds.

Chiefs fans got a kick out of Mahomes’ reaction and the language he used.
