Police say they are investigating an incident that hospitalized an 11-year-old boy with life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a vehicle while biking in Calgary's northeast on Friday.

Officers responded to reports of the collision around 7:20 p.m. on Sept. 9, police said in a statement on Sunday they believe the boy was travelling south on his bicycle along Cityscape Health N.E.

He entered an unmarked crosswalk at Cityscape Drive N.E. and was struck by a vehicle travelling westbound.

The boy sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition, where he remains, police said on Sunday.

The driver, a woman in her 30s, remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

Police said they are continuing to investigate the accident — but speed, alcohol and drugs are not considered to be factors in the collision.
