A Chinese woman is dead after a single vehicle accident on the Dempster Highway Saturday evening around 8:45 PM.

In a release Monday, the RCMP said three other people, two adult females and one adult male, exited the vehicle and sustained injuries. Officers from Fort McPherson attended the accident.

"The fourth occupant, an adult female, was found deceased inside the vehicle, with the seatbelt intact in the front passenger seat," according to police.

The RCMP said all four people in the vehicle were from China and the Consulate-General of the Peoples Republic of China has been contacted.

Police said road and driving conditions may have been factors, although no foul play is suspected at this time.

The investigation continues and the RCMP is working with the Office of the Chief Coroner of the Northwest Territories.

"Driving the Dempster Highway is a popular activity with both locals and tourists alike. Please travel safely when on our remote Northern roads," said RCMP spokesperson Marie York-Condon.
