Chipotle fans rejoice: Carne asada is back on the menu, for a limited time

Carne asada cravings?

Chipotle Mexican Grill announced Tuesday it is bringing back carne asada to restaurants across the U.S. for a limited time.

Chipotle's rewards members in the U.S. will get early access to the premium meat option on Sept. 22 and 23 via orders through the website Chipotle.com and the Chipotle app.

"To bring back carne asada to our menu, we underwent an extensive vetting process to find more suppliers that meet our stringent Food with Integrity standards," said Chris Brandt, chief marketing officer at Chipotle, in a news release. "Our fans love our carne asada because they can taste the care and culinary expertise that goes into this recipe from farm to bowl."

Chipotle's carne asada is grilled in small batches, seasoned with a blend of spices, hand cut into slices, and is finished with fresh squeezed lime and hand-chopped cilantro.

After rewards members' early access concludes, carne asada will be available as a digital-only menu item to everyone via the Chipotle app and Chipotle.com from Sept. 24 through the 27. And starting Sept. 28, it will be available in-restaurant and across all digital channels, including third-party delivery services like Uber Eats or DoorDash.

Chipotle included carne asada in its menu from late 2019 to early 2020. The restaurant is bringing the protein on a limited time basis due to its food standards, saying "only 5% of U.S. beef meets Chipotle's strict sourcing standards ... which means it comes from animals given no antibiotics or added hormones and that are raised responsibly."

McDonald's is also experimenting with exclusive deals to drive traffic to its mobile app. The burger chain's The Travis Scott Meal is available to order exclusively through the McDonald's app as of Sept. 22 and expected to be available while supplies last through Oct. 4. The $6 meal comes with a Quarter Pounder with Cheese, bacon and lettuce, a medium order of fries with BBQ sauce and a Sprite drink.
