Christine Wood sentenced to jail in baby Taylor death

A New Brunswick woman charged after her newborn son's body was found in a snowbank more than six years ago was sentenced in court on Friday.

Christine Margaret Wood of Riverview was sentenced to one year in jail, two years of probation.

Wood was originally charged with attempted murder in the so-called baby Taylor case.

But in August, she pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of neglecting to obtain assistance in child birth, with the intent that the child shall not live, or with the intent to conceal the birth of the child.

The maximum sentence for that charge is five years in prison.

She also pleaded guilty to disposing of the baby's body with the intent to conceal it and to offering an indignity to a dead body.

Those charges carry maximum sentences of two years and five years respectively.

The baby's body was discovered along Taylor Road on April 29, 2009. The anonymous infant became known as Baby Taylor.

The community held a funeral service for the child that was attended by 200 people at the time.
