City council candidate in Selma charged with two felonies for running in wrong district
A Selma woman running for a city council seat could be sentenced to a maximum of four years in prison for allegedly lying about where she lives.
Jobita “Jovita” Camacho, 42, who is listed on election documents as a property manager, has been charged with one felony count of elections fraud and one felony count of perjury by the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office.
The DA alleges Camacho falsely submitted paperwork to run for the District 4 council seat in Selma when “in fact she lives in District 2,” according to a press release from the district attorney.
The District 2 seat is not open this election cycle.
Camacho is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 25 in Department 32.
The case against Camacho is being prosecuted by the Public Integrity Unit of the District Attorney’s office.
