Clear makeup is taking over social media, with the hashtag #clearblush alone racking up millions of views from TikTok users. The concept of makeup that physically looks clear but delivers pigment once applied to the skin sounds innovative in theory, but, it could also be a gimmick. So, which one is it?

TikTokers have been taking to the app to test out the clear makeup products that have gone viral to see if they're actually worth it. To be clear, some interesting findings came about after trying out the latest beauty trend.

The concept of clear makeup seemingly went viral after popular TikTokers discovered makeup brand espressoh.'s GLASSY- Blush by the glass. It's a unique product that looks clear in the jar, but is actually highly pigmented once applied to the skin — offering the wearer a unique blush colour based on their skin's pH.

$34 CAD/$26 USD at espressoh.

Joining the viral nature of espressoh.'s clear blush is RCMA Makeup's Clear Foundation. This product is slightly different because it consists of the brand's base formula, which features no pigment.

As a result, it's specially formulated so you can mix the product with any beauty essentials like loose powder or cream to create your own custom shade.

As an added bonus, you can use this clear foundation to make more than just a complexion product — you can also make your own cheek colour or cream eyeshadow based on what other products you decide to mix it with.

What TikTok users are saying

Beauty TikToker @sarah_wolak took to her platform to try out both clear makeup products and give them an honest review.

In the video, Wolak references being tagged in @glamluxestyle's video by fans hoping for her to review espressoh.'s GLASSY blush.

Despite having "never tried a clear [blush]," Wolak appears impressed to find that the product is extremely pigmented and "a little goes a long way." After sheering it out, she's left with beautifully flushed cheeks.

In another video, Wolak is seen testing out RCMA's Clear Foundation.

Given that you can mix the product with any powder to create the pigment that you want, Wolak opts to blend it with the Kosas Cloud Set Powder in a shade that matches her skin tone to create a foundation.

Initially, the mixture "grosses" her out, but after applying a tiny amount to her cheek and blending it in with her fingertips, Wolak is surprised to see that the product provides her with a light wash of coverage, leaving behind skin that "looks like it has a filter on it."
