Closed since the beginning of 2023, KC area bar reopens Friday — with some changes
In 2021, Lulu’s Thai Noodle Shop owner Malisa Monyakula opened The House, a homey neighborhood bar inside a, yes, house next door to her Westwood restaurant.
It has been closed since the beginning of the year for remodeling and because Monyakula was focused on opening a third local location of Lulu’s in Overland Park.
As of Friday, though, The House (2707 47th Ave., Westwood) is back — with a few changes.
Monyakula said they’ve added a fire pit outside, knocked out a wall to open up bar space and added “funky furniture and decor,” including a selection of vinyl records that customers can request the staff to play on an old record player Monyakula has owned since she was a child.
“We want this to be a gathering place where everyone feels at home and is welcome to come relax with a yard beer and enjoy vintage records,” Monyakula said. “A place for the community to get together with each other and talk about what’s going on in this neck of the woods.”
Frozen cocktails are also now available, in addition to the Lulu’s full food and drink menu.
Inside, The House seats 20 guests; the picnic tables on the patio outside can fit about 50.
“We want to take advantage of the outdoor space before it gets cold,” said Nick Javanovich, vice president of operations for Lulu’s. “That’s one reason we added the fire pit there, so we can kind of extend that a little bit.”
The bar is only open on the weekends, from 5 to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 to 9 p.m. on Sundays. But Monyakula said they plan to make The House available for private events on evenings when the bar is closed.
