Cloudy in city, rainfall and wind warnings elsewhere in Man.

Grey clouds and breezy winds are forecast to keep Winnipeggers under the covers in bed a little longer Saturday.

But take heart, city-dwellers, as you aren't under heavy rainfall or wind warnings like places elsewhere in Manitoba.

And despite the overcast gloom, Environment Canada is predicting it will remain warm in Winnipeg throughout the day, with temperatures climbing to a high of 23 C by 4 p.m.

By 6 p.m. the weather agency says showers and a risk of thunderstorms will roll in, continuing past midnight but clearing off in the early morning hours.

The rain is expected to return again on Sunday.

Winds in the city are expected to blow at 30 km/h with gusts reaching up to 50 km/h.

But that's relatively mild compared to what's happening in the Lake Winnipeg, Lake Manitoba, Lake Winnipegosis and Lake of the Woods areas, where gale and/or high wind warnings are in effect.

Areas of west-central Manitoba – including Flin Flon, Norway House, Cross Lake, The Pas, Thompson and Nelson House – are subject to a rainfall warning.

Environment Canada says a north-moving low-pressure system will enter Manitoba in the afternoon, bringing heavy rain and thunderstorms by evening. Up to 75 millimeters of rain is possible.

"Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads," the agency said.

The rain will begin to taper off in affected areas later on Sunday, Environment Canada said.
