Clown costumes banned at Shawinigan high school

A high school in Shawinigan is telling students to leave their clown costumes behind this Halloween.

L'École secondaire des Chutes has banned clown costumes and masks entirely after an incident between two groups of students in the school's parking lot two weeks ago.

A complaint was brought to the Sûreté du Québec after one group of students dressed up as clowns to play a trick on some of their peers.

The perpetrators of the prank were made to apologize as a result.

This comes after a rash of "creepy clown sightings" across North America, from Nova Scotia to Texas, some of which have turned violent.

The school's administration says this is a preventive measure, to keep similar incidents from happening again this Halloween.

This isn't the only school that has banned clown costumes outright. Similar measures have been added in schools across the country.
