CMPD arrests one of their own following domestic violence call on Christmas Eve
Charlotte police arrested an officer and placed him on unpaid leave Tuesday following a domestic violence call.
Officer Onesiphorus Bernard Williams, 51, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault by pointing a gun following the 5:30 a.m. call in Charlotte, a police statement said. He was off duty at the time.
He was transferred to the custody of the sheriff.
Police said Williams was hired in October 2022.
Police Chief Johnny Jennings issued a statement saying he “will not tolerate any behavior that undermines the integrity of the CMPD” or erodes community trust.
“I am deeply troubled by the arrest of Officer Williams,” the statement said. “Our department holds itself and its officers to the highest standards of conduct, both on and off duty.”
