Code red lockdown lifted at Garner Magnet High School after report of gun on campus
Garner High School placed students on code red lockdown for more than an hour Friday while police responded to a potential gun threat on campus.
Garner police posted on the department’s Facebook page that officers received a report of a student with a handgun on campus. The student fled school, police said, and was detained.
Parents received an alert just before noon advising them students were safe and asking them to check their emails. Some students reported hiding under desks.
By 1 p.m., the threat had been downgraded to code yellow. Shortly afterward, it went to code green, or all clear.
at 2:50 p.m., a message was sent to Garner High parents saying ‘no weapon was found’ after a search that included using canines.
The investigation continues.
