Coleen Rooney: The Wagatha Christie reaction was unbelievable
Coleen Rooney has been shocked by the level of interest in the 'Wagatha Christie' row.
The 37-year-old star became embroiled in a high-profile dispute with Rebekah Vardy back in 2019 - which ultimately led to a legal case and a new Disney documentary - but Coleen remains amazed that so many people are captivated by the story.
Coleen - who is married to retired soccer star Wayne Rooney - told E! News: "I remember when I had done the post and the next day, my PR at the time, she came on and said, 'You are wanted for interviews in Australia and America'.
"Now, when I look back on it, it was pretty unbelievable that it hit that many places. But my state of mind wasn't to accept any. But it shows I had a chance to say my peace from the beginning, but I wanted to just focus getting the right things out there and battling through the court case."
Coleen's case centred on accusations that Rebekah was leaking private Instagram posts.
The row eventually led to a libel case in 2022, when both parties appeared at the High Court in London.
In 2019, Coleen took to social media to claim that "Rebekah Vardy's account" was behind the publication of three fake stories that she'd deliberately leaked online.
She said in a lengthy social media post at the time: "Now I know from certain which account/individual it’s come from.
"I have saved and screenshotted all the original stories which clearly show just one person has viewed them. It’s … Rebekah Vardy’s account. (sic)"
Coleen's post prompted the row to become known as the 'Wagatha Christie' scandal, in reference to Agatha Christie, the author famed for her detective novels.
