The total construction value of building permits issued by the City of Terrace in January was the highest in 10 years, due to Coast Mountain College’s new student housing.

In January, the city issued over $9 million worth of building permits, including the college’s $8.3 million housing complex. Over the past 10 years, the total value of building permits issued in January has never exceeded $1 million.

When finished, the $19.7 million project will feature 104 rooms and four guest suites emphasizing First Nations design principles and art.

It replaces existing student housing which had 71 student rooms split between four buildings constructed in the 1970s.

The city also issued a permit with a construction value of $400,000 for an extensive renovation for a property on Cooper Dr., and close to $300,000 for a bus shelter at the Northwest Regional Airport.
