College and Lansdowne intersection closed for 2 weeks for road, track work

Construction the culprit as noise complaints on the rise in Toronto

Another detour for drivers this summer as the city catches up on construction and roadwork projects.

The intersection of College and Lansdowne will be fully closed in all directions for two weeks starting Monday.

The TTC will be replacing streetcar tracks and the city will be repairing roads and sidewalks.

Traffic and TTC vehicles will be detoured around the closure along Dufferin, Brock, Dundas, and Bloor, but the city's transportation services suggests taking Queen Street West and Roncesvalles Avenue as alternate routes.

Pedestrians will be able to get around the area on foot and cyclists can walk their bikes through the closure.

Michael D'Andrea, executive director of engineering and construction services for the City of Toronto, said the city has extended construction hours in order to speed up the project.

"It's a major project, and in an effort to shorten the impact and reduce the overall construction duration, this project's being run on a 24/7 basis, so we're hoping to be finished within the next two weeks."

The intersection will reopen on Aug. 8, but will be limited to one lane of traffic in each direction until Sept. 2.

D'Andrea says there are 24 projects underway in the downtown core this year.

"It's a busy year for us. Part of that is due to the fact that we deferred projects last year so as not to interrupt the Pan Am Games."
