It’s comedy night in Mattawa, with Derek Seguin bringing the laughs

·1 min read

Tonight, the upper floor hall of Mattawa’s Mike Rodden Arena will echo with laughter, as comedian Derek Seguin takes the stage at 8:00 p.m.

This is the first show held in the hall since the pandemic measures were instituted, and now that those have been relaxed, the doors are opening, and the comedy is being unleashed.

Seguin is one of Canada’s most in-demand comedians. He’s appeared on The Debaters on CBC radio over 25 times, and performed stand-up at Just for Laughs, Yuk Yuk’s, and the Winnipeg Comedy Festival to name a few of his many gigs.

His album, PanDerek, was nominated for a Juno Award this year for best comedy album.

Tickets are selling well, explained Sheri Wabie, who works with the town and is overseeing ticket sales for the event, but there are still some available for tonight’s show.

For those who prefer not to leave home, a livestream ticket is also available for $10.

Opening for Sequin is Rick Lemieux, a comedian from Timmins. Lemieux has performed for many years on the stand-up circuit, and in 2014, he founded the Timmins Comedy Festival, which features a host of top comedic talent from across the country.

Tickets are $25 and are available at the information centre. Call 705-744-0222 for details.

The event is licensed— “the Legion is supplying you with a selection of alcohol”—to purchase, Mattawa Recreation explains on their Facebook page, and Sisters R Back will have food for sale as well.

Attendees are reminded that they will be asked to show proof of full vaccination upon arrival.
