Comfort care aides needed for Hythe Continuing Care

A recruiter for the Calgary-based employment agency Manpower Alberta is looking to hire 10 comfort care aides (CCA) in Hythe.

Ahmed Borhot, Manpower regional operations leader, said Manpower has a partnership with Alberta Health Services to fill approximately 10 positions at the Hythe Continuing Care Centre (HCCC).

Shelly Willsey, AHS North Zone communications director, confirmed AHS has partnered with Manpower on the project.

“One component of this project is to provide companionship and a buddy system to residents, to read with them and provide support and guidance,” Borhot said.

Tasks may also include assisting residents with dressing and using mobile phones, or playing cards with residents, according to the job posting on Indeed.

CCAs may also provide an “extra hand” to AHS with cleaning or making beds, he said.

Borhot said Manpower is seeking to fill 2,000 to 4,000 CCA positions in 300 to 400 different sites across the province.

Manpower is also looking to fill a “substantial” number of positions in Grande Prairie, though the number of open positions frequently changes.

Once the CCAs are in place, it will be up to AHS to delegate CCAs to patients, Borhot said.

He said all one needs to apply is a high school education, good communication skills and ability to pass a background check.

“There’s no health care education required,” he said.

Borhot confirmed Cathy Beek, who posted on social media about seeking CCAs in Hythe, is a recruiter for Manpower.

There’s no set end date for the recruitment process, as Manpower will continue until the positions are filled, he said.
