A Complete Timeline of Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter’s Relationship

Rumors of a relationship between pop star Sabrina Carpenter and Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan first began circulating since late 2023. They went public with their dating in February 2024, and things have only escalated since. Keoghan even starred in the music video for Carpenter’s single “Please Please Please” in June 2024.

Prior to dating Carpenter, Keoghan split from Alyson Kierans, a dental nurse and orthodontic therapist, with whom he shares a son named Brando, born in August 2022. The couple broke up in July 2023 after two-and-a-half years together. A source told The Sun that the former couple are “determined to do the best for their son....They’ve grown apart over recent months and things have finally come to a head….As far as she’s concerned, it’s over.”

As for Carpenter, she was last romantically linked to Shawn Mendes in early 2023.

It was suspected that the Irish actor would make his first public appearance with Carpenter at the Golden Globes in January 2024, but the two wound up walking the red carpet separately. The next month, they attended a Grammys after-party together and have made more public appearances since. Here’s Carpenter and Keoghan’s complete relationship timeline so far.

Carpenter attended an advanced screening of Saltburn in New York City on September 20. She was photographed posing with a fan and may have already been a fan of Keoghan herself.

Sept. 28, 2023

Both were seen at Givenchy’s spring/summer 2024 show during Paris Fashion Week on September 28. Though they were photographed separately, it’s supposedly where they first met.

In photos shared by Daily Mail, Carpenter and Keoghan were spotted having a “romantic dinner” in Brentwood, California.

It was suspected the new couple might attend the Golden Globes together. A source claimed in The Sun that the Eternals star gave Kierans a heads up about his planned relationship reveal.

“Barry thought it was best that Alyson was the first to know about him and Sabrina so she wouldn’t be hurt if she found out on social media,” the source alleged. “He is spending a lot of time in the States and has invited Sabrina to be his ‘plus one’ at the Golden Globes. Alyson and Barry still communicate for the sake of Brando, and he has been open about his new relationship.”

Alas, the two were ultimately photographed separately on the red carpet.

The pair were seen at Luna Luna, an interactive art museum in Los Angeles on Saturday, January 13.

“It definitely seemed like a date,” an eyewitness told People, adding that they were “cute” together and “shared a little kiss.”

Feb. 4, 2024

Carpenter and Keoghan made their first public appearance together at W’s Grammys after-party, seemingly confirming their rumored romance. While Carpenter walked the red carpet by herself, she was reportedly seen cozying up to the Saltburn star inside during the event. W even posted a photo of the two of them together, but both of them were bashfully covering their faces.

Feb. 8, 2024

On Thursday, February 8, TMZ asked Keoghan about his plans for Valentine’s Day after catching up with him in an alley in Los Angeles. The actor was signing autographs and taking selfies with fans and even answering questions about a Jacob Elordi bathwater candle. But when questioned about Sabrina Carpenter...he stopped responding.

Carpenter was similarly coy when she made an appearance on Nova’s Smallzy’s Surgery on February 22. The show’s host, Smallzy, otherwise known as Kent Small, asked Carpenter if she’d seen Saltburn, Keoghan’s popular movie.

“You know, I have,” she replied.

Smallzy pushed the question, asking, “Did you love it?”

Carpenter replied, “Oh, I loved it. Such a good movie...anyways, I gotta go to the bathroom.”

On Friday, February 24, Carpenter shared some clips and photos from her duet with Taylor Swift in Sydney, Australia, where she was the opening act for the Eras Tour. A weather-related issue delayed the show recently, meaning Carpenter couldn’t perform, but Swift invited her onstage to sing a mashup of “White Horse” and “Coney Island,” which thrilled the younger pop star.

She wrote on Instagram: “9 year old Sabrina singing ‘White Horse’ would never see this sh-t coming! I love you so so so dearly Taylor. Always have always will.”

In the comments, Keoghan left a queen emoji in support.

In a photo shared by fan account Pop Crave, Keoghan could be seen at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert in Singapore, where Carpenter was the opening act.

He appeared to be alone in a closed off section of the arena, wearing a cream tank top and matching long shorts, plus a red hat.

Keoghan gave Carpenter a public shout-out—and shared more proof they are dating. At an Academy Awards dinner with Louis Vuitton and W magazine in Los Angeles, the actor was seen wearing a Taylor Swift-style beaded friendship bracelet that reads “Sabrina.”

He also wore the bracelet the day before at an event with Vanity Fair and Instagram.

Carpenter was wrapping her performances up in Singapore when Keoghan wore the accessory in a tribute to her.

For her digital cover with Cosmopolitan, Carpenter talked dating and relationships.

“A lot of it, for me, has been fate. I know that’s super broad, but I don’t actively look for it. The relationships that I actually want to put my energy into have to be so interesting or invigorating because they take me away from the other things I love. So yeah, it’s fun and it’s messy. I think I’m still just at this place where I’m really enjoying the newness of all of it,” she said.

During Coachella, Keoghan played the supportive boyfriend as Carpenter took the stage for her first performance at the music festival ever. Attendees shared a clip on X, formerly known as Twitter, of Keoghan in front of the stage filming Carpenter throughout her set.

Another video showed him stopping to watch and enjoy Carpenter singing amongst the rest of her fans. They were later seen leaving her show together.

April 17, 2024

On Wednesday, April 17, TMZ shared pictures of Keoghan and Carpenter at Disney’s California Adventure with a group of friends. A source told the publication that the group headed to the theme park’s Mendocino Terrace for some wine. In the photos, the actor is wearing a blue baseball cap and matching graphic T-shirt. He appears to give Carpenter some sweet looks as she holds his hand and sips from an orange drink. She’s wearing blue denim and a white patterned shirt and carrying a small white handbag.

On Friday, April 19, Carpenter changed the outro of her hit “Nonsense” while onstage at Coachella, singing, “Man his knees so weak, he had to spread mine. He’s drinkin’ my bath water like it’s red wine.”

She added, “Coachella, see you back here when I headline.”

The new lyric sounds like a reference to Keoghan’ film Saltburn, which involves some explicit bathtub scenes to say the least. Fans reacted to the lyric change with screaming and clapping in the crowd. While Carpenter did not headline the festival this year, she did have a mainstage time slot before Lil Uzi Vert, Peso Pluma, and headliner Lana Del Rey.

Keoghan and Carpenter both attended this year’s Met Gala, and while they opted to walk the red carpet separately, fans got something just as good. After they each made their way up the steps, they stopped together for some photos at the top, and the full moment was captured on video. For the event, Carpenter wore a black and blue Oscar de la Renta mermaid-style gown, while Keoghan wore a brown velvet suit by Burberry with a ruffled Victorian dress shirt and top hat. Keoghan threw Carpenter a party for her 25th birthday. The singer shared pictures from the event, which included a cake reading, “Is 25 that sweet? I guess so!” in reference to her hit single “Espresso.”

She had a second cake with a Leonardo DiCaprio meme printed on it reading, “Nooo don't turn 25 your so hot aha.”

According to People, the event was a surprise that Keoghan arranged at DUMBO House in Brooklyn with 100 guests, including rapper Ice Spice. In a video shared by TMZ, Carpenter is clearly stunned. She can be heard saying, “I just walked in so confused.”

Ice Spice reportedly shared an Instagram Story of Carpenter blowing out the candles on her Leonardo DiCaprio cake and then Keoghan leaning in to give her a kiss.

Carpenter briefly discusses Keoghan’s reaction to “Please Please Please” in her Variety interview. “He loved the song,” she said. “He’s obsessed with the lyrics, and I’m so grateful for that. I don’t want to sound biased, but I think he’s one of the best actors of this generation. So getting to see him on the screen with my song as the soundtrack made the video better and all the more special.”

Photographer and music video director Alfredo Flores shared a carousel of pictures to sum up his summer on Instagram, and his summer definitely included a lot of time with Sabrina Carpenter. He shared one shot in which they are enjoying some sodas and Carpenter has her mouth open over the straw.

Keoghan commented on the pic, making a suggestive joke. He wrote, “Slide 3 Im the cup.”

Keoghan attended Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet Tour shows in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Charlottesville, Virginia. Carpenter made a lyric tweak to “Juno” during her Raleigh show, giving her rumored partner a shout-out. She sang, “I hear you knocking, Barry, come on up.”

The actor made an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show with host Julia Cunningham on Friday, Nov. 8, the same morning it was announced Carpenter scored six Grammy nominations. When asked about the accomplishment, the actor was effusive.

“Brilliant, brilliant. I know, absolutely brilliant, six nominations! I’m really, really happy for her,” he said. “I gotta get on the phone soon. Don’t put me on the spot, lads.”

Keoghan continued, “But no, I’m really, really, I, you know, I don’t know anyone who works as hard, you know, I’m in awe of her, watching her work and her committed and the standards that she sets, you know, especially being on that, that music video.”

But shortly after, he appeared to deactivate his entire account. The star has not made any announcement about stepping away from social media, nor how long he intends to be off of Instagram.

Later that day, he posted a statement on X, formerly Twitter, asking for people to be “respectful.”

In his post, Keoghan said, “I can only sit and take so much. My name is being dragged across the internet in ways I usually don’t respond to.”

He said he had to come forward because there are “too many lines being crossed” and he deleted Instagram because he “can no longer let this stuff distract from my family and my work.”

He continued, “Absolute lies, hatred, disgusting commentary about my appearance, character, how I am as a parent, and every other inhumane thing you can imagine. Dragging my character and everything I worked extremely hard for and stand for.”

According to the Saltburn star, people have been “knocking at my grannies door” and allegedly harassing his ex-girlfriend Alyson Sandro and their son Brando and “intimidating them” outside of their house.

“Each and every day I work harder to push myself on every level to be the healthiest and strongest person for that boy,” he added. “I want you to [remember] that he has to read ALL of this about his father when he is older. Please be respectful to all.”
