Concerned about senior housing, Mattawa? Have your say this Wednesday

The affordable senior housing committee meets this Wednesday, October 6 at 4:00 p.m. Public attendance is not allowed, the meeting itself will be held by video and phone, but citizens are welcome to access the meeting.

The committee lays the path leading to the completion of the Mattawa seniors affordable housing complex, the former Algonquin Nursing Home, at 231 Tenth Street.

Ground broke on the project this past March. The committee expects the building to be move-in ready in early 2022.

There will be 30 renovated suites within, a mixture of one- and two-bedroom units. A shared laundry for residents and a common space for gathering will also be on site.

Proposed rents range from $498 to $806 plus utilities. These numbers remain fluid and may change as the committee deems fit.

Tomorrow’s meeting will provide an update from Descon Construction and discuss the draft tenant policy handbook.

The committee will also prepare for a site tour this November.

To participate in the meeting, call the teleconference number at 1-833-311-4101. You will be directed to enter an access code to partake, which is 2488 922 0052.
