Connie Chung eviscerates Trump over lack of respect for women as he goes head-to-head with female moderator
As Donald Trump’s personal war with female members of the media continues after he cut short an interview with Lesley Stahl, veteran journalist Connie Chung called him out about a lack of respect for women that goes back decades.
Ms Chung had her own contentious interview with Trump the businessman in 1990. They sparred after she pressed him for denying that he loves publicity, and asked him to answer a question without “giving me the normal spiel”.
In a subsequent interview with Joan Rivers, Mr Trump called Ms Chung “a disaster”, then fleetingly referred to her as a “girl” before correcting himself. He added that she had “less talent than anybody I know of”.
Ahead of Thursday night’s presidential debate, in which the president will face NBC’s Kristen Welker as moderator — whom he has already described as “terrible” and “unfair” — Ms Chung appeared on CNN to share her experience.
“He doesn’t respect women,” Ms Chung told host Brianna Keiler.

The former broadcaster recalled: “My husband and I used to see him at golf tournaments... he absolutely refused to acknowledge that I was physically there... as if I were invisible. It was remarkable.”
Ms Chung also seized on Mr Trump’s now-familiar attack line of calling people a “disaster”, describing his vocabulary as being “rather limited”.
For the first time ever, Ms Chung has endorsed a candidate announcing that she is supporting the Biden-Harris ticket.

She made the decision in the hope of encouraging Asian Americans to get out and vote, and after the president’s racist characterisation of Covid-19 as the “China Virus” has led to attacks on Asian people.
Over the years the award-winning journalist worked for NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, and MSNBC, and was the only the second woman ever to co-anchor CBS Evening News.
