Conor McGregor says he's ready to fight Donald Cerrone after Cowboy's impressive win

At long last, it looks like Donald Cerrone has finally turned it around. “Cowboy” posted his second straight win on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 143 in Brooklyn, TKOing Alexander Hernandez in the second round.

It was a powerful knockout, with Cerrone staggering Hernandez with a right kick and never relenting with his punches until the ref stepped in:

That win, as well as Cerrone’s win by submission over Mike Perry in November, is a good sign Cerrone is past a brutal stretch in which the 35-year-old went 1-4 between January 2017 and June 2018. Good enough that Cerrone felt confident telling the world he wants a top five opponent, including Conor McGregor, during his post-fight interview.

“The old man’s still got it,” Cerrone said. “I want top five. I even want Conor if he’ll agree to it. Cowboy’s back. I’m on a roll baby, here I come.”

To that, McGregor had a simple response.

Considering that giving someone a chance to step into the Octagon with McGregor might be McGregor’s highest honor, that offer is no mean feat.

Of course, we still don’t know when McGregor will have his next fight, much less who he’ll be fighting. The Irishman is still awaiting his punishment for his role in the Khabib Nurmagomedov fiasco, with a hearing before the Nevada State Athletic Commission scheduled for Jan. 29.

At that point, we might get a better indication of what McGregor’s first fight since October might be. He figures to have no shortage of possible opponents, a stable which now very much seems to include Cerrone.
