Windsor police say a 39-year-old woman has been arrested and charged after a taxi driver was robbed and an officer was assaulted.

Authorities responded to a report of an assault on Ouellette Avenue in the city's downtown around 2 a.m. Thursday.

"Upon arrival, officers found a male victim with injuries to his forearm, head, and face," police said in a statement.

They say investigators determined the woman solicited a ride from the cabbie and that shortly after entering the vehicle an argument ensued and the cab driver was allegedly assaulted.

"The suspect damaged the cab and stole the vehicle's surveillance equipment and keys before fleeing the scene."

The driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said, and the accused was located a short distance away.

Authorities say that during the arrest, the suspect "actively resisted" and "subsequently assaulted" an officer.

The accused is charged with robbery, mischief, resisting a peace officer and assaulting a peace officer.
