Police in Russia who raided a drugs den were stunned to find a hash-addicted ferret, completely stoned and lying on its back.

The amazed cops found the animal among a group of drug addicts.

According to the owner of the flat, he had obtained the ferret when it was two months old.

It had instantly taken a liking to hash after accidentally eating part of his stash.

Since then, whenever the man – known only as Lyosha – got stoned, the ferret joined in.

The animal was taken away by welfare protection officers who were called to the flat in the capital Moscow.

They are now working on weaning the ferret off its addiction.

Its 37-year-old owner, his girlfriend and three others who were all arrested and have been charged with possession and dealing in illegal drugs.

Police confiscated a large amount of drug-taking equipment as well as drugs.

The ferret’s owner will be unlikely to reclaim his pet for at least the foreseeable future and therefore cannot object to it being rehomed.
