Police are asking people in the Cornerstone community in northeast Calgary to check their properties to help find a man in his 50s who has been missing for five days.

It is the second appeal from police for help finding Avtar Singh Kalkat, who was last seen on Saturday, the Calgary Police Service said in a release issued Thursday.

Kalkat is believed to have left his home on foot at about 6:40 a.m. and was seen in a greenspace near Cornerstone Way and 68th Street N.E. around 6:45 a.m., police said.

He's described as being of South Asian descent, in his late 50s, five feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build, thinning black hair and brown eyes.

He may be wearing a dark green shirt, a light-blue jacket, brown pyjama pants and white shoes.

People living and working in the area of Country Hills Boulevard N.E. and Stoney Trail N.E. south to 96th Avenue N.E. are being asked to check their properties and report anything suspicious to police.
