Cornwall skateboarders seriously hurt after collision with SUV

Police in Cornwall, Ont., are looking for witnesses after two skateboarders were seriously injured in a collision with an SUV Wednesday night.

The two teens, ages 18 and 19, were struck by an eastbound gold SUV near the intersection of Cumberland Street and Fourth Street West around 11:30 p.m., Cornwall police said in a media release.

Their injuries were significant enough that they were both taken to hospital in Ottawa, said Const. Dan Cloutier.

As of Thursday morning, both teens remained in serious condition.

The driver remained at the scene of the collision, Cloutier said.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, said Cloutier, adding it was too early in the investigation to say whether charges would be laid.

Anyone who may have seen the crash can call Cornwall police at 613-933-5000 ext. 2755.
