Lucy Fallon's mother wasn't best pleased when her daughter told her she would be leaving her role on Coronation Street after five years on the ITV soap.

The 24-year-old will be departing the cobbles soon as her final scenes as Bethany Platt are set to air this week after she announced her exit in May 2019.

Speaking on This Morning with hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, she said of her mum's reaction: "I don't actually think she was very happy really. She wanted me to stay."

The cameras turned to her mother Angela, who was in the studio, as she explained it was "for the security".

The actor went on: "As a mum she probably worries about me, that I might not get another job and I might not work again."

In the interview, Fallon confirmed that she was looking for other things and that she was "open to whatever".

Fallon explained the reason behind her decision to leave after five years on the programme, noting that it was her "first job" and "it was now or never".

"I didn't want to get so far down the line, look back and think I wish I'd gone and tried other things. You know, it might not work out. I might not work again, but I need to try, because if I don't try I never know," she shared.

Fallon won the role of Bethany after the actor originally hired to play her upon the character's return to Weatherfield in 2015 was revealed to be 25-years-old and not 19 as her management had claimed.

The part had previously been played by three child actors, twins Amy and Emily Walton and Mia Cookson.
