Coronation Street star Jane Danson calls for Leanne change

Coronation Street star Jane Danson, who stars as Leanne Battersby on the soap, has called for a change in Leanne's love life which would involve a soap crossover.

Corrie fans will know that Leanne is currently embroiled in a revenge plan against her ex Nick Tilsley and her sister Toyah, after the pair rekindled their affair.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Danson said she'd like to see a different kind of romance in Leanne's future with a bad boy character.

Asked if there could be a new man in Leanne's life in future, Danson said: "Do you know what, there aren't a huge amount of possibilities! We're a bit short on the men front. But let's just say there is fun to be had with a few people."

She continued: "I think long-term she needs a Cain Dingle - I think he should hotfoot it over from Emmerdale, have a pint in the Rovers and have a thing with Leanne!"

Quizzed on whether she'd like to see Leanne settle down eventually or if she is happy with her character's chaotic dalliances, Danson said she's not sure if it's ever going to be smooth sailing for Leanne.

"I've resigned myself to the fact that she's never going to be completely happy," she said. "But I would like her to have a relationship that's a laugh and a bit of fun. We could maybe even see her smile occasionally!"

Elsewhere in the interview, Danson touched on how her character is feeling about Nick and Toyah rekindling their romance, saying: "It's just the pits for her."

"She was over the first time to a point. She knows that she made some bad decisions, and although she didn't agree with it, she can understand why it might have happened," she explained.

"She loves Toyah so much that she was prepared to forgive her. So to find out that their affair is continuing - basically, she's at the end of her rope."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
