Coronavirus LIVE Updates: India's COVID-19 infection tally crossed 19 lakh on Wednesday, two days after it crossed the 18-lakh mark, with 52,509 people testing positive for the novel coronavirus in a day, while the recoveries have climbed to 12,82,215, according to the Union Health Ministry data. Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Brajesh Pathak on Wednesday tested positive for Covid-19. In a tweet in Hindi, Pathak said that he got himself tested after he showed symptoms for Covid-19 and appealed to people who came in contact with him to quarantine themselves. The total number of coronavirus cases in India crossed the 19 lakh-mark, while the death toll rose to 39,795. The total number of recoveries stands at 12.82 lakh.
Meanwhile, Novavax Inc said on Tuesday its experimental coronavirus vaccine induced high levels of antibodies against the novel coronavirus, as per initial data from a small, early-stage clinical trial. The company said it could start a large pivotal Phase III trial as soon as late September, and added that it could provide 1 billion to 2 billion doses of the vaccine in 2021.

► More than 10,000 Maharashtra Police personnel have till now tested positive for coronavirus and 107 of them have died due to the viral infection, an official said
on Wednesday. The police personnel who tested positive for the infection included 1,035 officers, he said.

► Novavax Coronavirus Vaccine Induces Immune Response in Early Study| Novavax research chief Gregory Glenn told Reuters the late-stage clinical trial could potentially glean enough data to obtain regulatory approvals as early as December. Maryland-based Novavax said its vaccine candidate, NVX-CoV2373, produced higher levels of the antibodies in healthy volunteers after two doses than those found in recovered COVID-19 patients, raising hopes for its eventual success.

► Australia's Queensland state on Wednesday said it would close its border with New South Wales state to hold back a second wave of coronavirus, while the country's second-largest city Melbourne was set to shut most businesses from midnight, news agency Reuters reported. A spike in coronavirus cases in Melbourne has forced the state of Victoria to impose a night curfew, tighten restrictions on people's movements and order most businesses to stop trading from Wednesday night.
►WHO Says China Team Interviewed Wuhan Scientists Over Coronavirus Origins The World Health Organization team in China to investigate the origins of the novel coronavirus had “extensive discussions” with scientists in Wuhan where the outbreak was first reported, a spokesman said on Tuesday.

► The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Germany increased by 741 to 212,022, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed today. The reported death toll increased by 12 to 9,168, the tally showed.
