COVID-19: Singapore events affected by viral outbreak

SINGAPORE — The novel coronavirus outbreak has caused multiple disruptions to business, arts and sports in Singapore, with many of the upcoming events being cancelled or postponed. Here is a list of affected events:

Business events/conferences/seminars

NATAS Travel Fair 2020: The travel fair by National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS), which was originally to be held at the Singapore Expo from 21 to 23 February, has been postponed until 1 to 3 May. About 90 exhibitors, ranging from travel agencies, airlines and hotels, were supposed to be part of the travel fair.

Sphere Exhibits events: Leading MICE company Sphere Exhibits announced that three of its upcoming events will be postponed until further notice. They are: the IT Show 2020 (12 to 15 March at Suntec Convention Centre), Food & Beverage Fair 2020 (19 to 22 March at Singapore Expo) and BuildTech Asia/CargoNow 2020 (11 to 13 March 2020 at Singapore Expo).

Singapore Yacht Show 2020: The annual event, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, was to be held from 19 to 22 March. It has been now postponed till October this year, although the exact dates are yet to be agreed with host venue partner ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove.

Women Entrepreneurs Development Program (WEDP): The second edition of WEDP, organised by Proctor & Gamble in partnership with WEConnect, was to be held on Valentine’s Day but has now been postponed.

Inner Leadership 2020: The event, which is aimed at bringing mindfulness and meditation to modern leaders in Asia, was scheduled for 28 March at the Stephen Riady Auditorium @NTUC, but is now postponed until further notice.

FHA-Food & Beverage and ProWine Asia (Singapore) 2020: The Food and Beverage industry events were to be held at the Singapore Expo from 31 March to 3 April, but have now been postponed to a later date.

People Matters TechHR 2020: The human resources and work technology conference was to be held from 19-21 February at Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre. Organisers have since postponed it to 1-3 September.

ConnecTechAsia 2020: The infocomm media and technology event, originally scheduled for 9 to 11 June at Marina Bay Sands, has been postponed to 29 September to 1 October.

AIA Glow Festival 2020: The lifestyle and fitness festival, originally scheduled for 30 and 31 May, has been postponed to the later part of the year. Tickets will be honoured for the rescheduled date.

Arts/Entertainment events

Middle East Film Festival 2020: The film festival, scheduled to be held from 14 to 19 February at Golden Village VivoCity, has been postponed. Organisers will announce the new festival dates once confirmed.

Singapore Mental Health Film Festival: Originally scheduled to be held from 27 February to 1 March at the National Gallery Singapore, the film festival will be held at a later date to be confirmed.

Slipknot/Trivium and Lacuna Coil concerts: LAMC Productions announced that the Slipknot/Trivium concert at Fort Canning Park on 24 March – part of its Rockfest II line-up – has been postponed to a later date. Another Rockfest II gig, the Lacuna Coil concert at Esplanade Annexe Studio on 27 March, has been cancelled.

A-ha concert: The Norwegian trio’s concert at Singapore Turf Club on 21 March has been cancelled.

Tony Hadley concert: The former Spandau Ballet frontman was to perform at The Theatre at Mediacorp on 16 February, but has since postponed the concert until 10 October.

98 Degrees concert: The American pop group has postponed their upcoming Asian tour due to the coronavirus outbreak, including a concert at The Star Theatre on 20 February. The rescheduled date for the Singapore show will be on 19 May.

Kenny G concert: Saxophonist Kenny G’s 18 February concert at Marina Bay Sands Theatre, together with his concert in Malaysia, have been postponed. A new date has yet to be confirmed.

Jam Hsiao concert: The Taiwanese singer was scheduled to hold an encore of his concert tour, Mr Entertainment, on 18 April at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. It has been cancelled due to the virus outbreak.

Yiruma Live in Singapore: South Korea pianist and composer Yiruma has postponed his Singapore concert, originally to be held on 29 February at The Star Theatre, to 3 October.

Stereofest: Billed as the first and largest Malay pop music festival in Singapore, Stereofest – originally to be held on 22 and 23 February at Palawan Green, Sentosa – will now take place between July and September. The festival would have featured 15 acts from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Hydeout: The multi-genre music festival was to be held over four days in April at Gardens by the Bay, but will now be postponed to October (9, 10, 16 and 17 October) at the same venue

Esplanade events: All events at Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay that were scheduled to be held from 25 March to 30 April have been cancelled. Ticket-holders will be contacted directly regarding refund details.

Aware Superwomen In Concert 2020: The concert scheduled for 10 April at Esplanade Concert Hall will be held on a new date in 2021.

Are You There, Singapore?: Local theatre company The Stage Club's production of playwright Robert Yeo's classic Are You There, Singapore? has also been postponed. The show, which was planned to be staged at KC Arts Centre from 5 to 8 February, has been moved to end of March. New dates have yet to be finalised.

The Nuclear Family: Checkpoint Theatre’s production The Nuclear Family, originally to be staged at the Drama Centre from 12 to 22 March, has been pushed back to March 2021.

First Fleet: Nine Years Theatre’s production First Fleet, which was due to run from 14 to 23 February at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre auditorium, will now take place in March 2021.

Flying High: The Singapore Repertory Theatre said that its Little Company production Flying High, originally slate dfor 19 February, has been pushed back to 23 March.

Night Walker: Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) said its commissioned musical arts production Night Walker, originally scheduled for 2 to 5 April, has been postponed to 2021. Furthermore, it has cancelled its basic Chinese percussion theory course, its Sing Lang concert and Cultural Extravaganza event.

NUS Arts Festival: The National University of Singapore’s flagship arts event on campus from 13 to 28 March has been scrapped. The NUS Centre for the Arts also said that discussions are ongoing to postpone most of the student productions to a later part of the year. Meanwhile, the NUS Alumni has said that all alumni events until mid-March are off.

Control Chaos: 25 Years of PHUNK Exhibition: The exhibition at National Design Centre from 14 February to 20 March will proceed, but its “Creative Conversations with PHUNK” talk show on 22 February will be rescheduled to a later date, yet to be announced.

i Light Singapore 2020: The i Light Singapore 2020 light art festival, scheduled to be held from 6 to 29 March, has been cancelled.

*SCAPE Radikal Forze Jam: The 14-22 March hip-hop festival and all related programmes – Summer Jam Dance Camp and Arena Dance Choreography Competition – is cancelled.

Star Awards 2020: Mediacorp said that the Star Awards 2020, initially scheduled to be held on 26 April, would be postponed at a later date.

Matisse & Picasso: Friends, Rivals: National Gallery Singapore said that this art exhibition, organised in partnership with National Gallery of Australia, has been cancelled. It was initially to be held from 15 May to 16 August.

Wild Rice productions: Theatre company Wild Rice said that its three upcoming productions – Grandmother Tongue, An Inspector Calls and HOTEL – have been postponed.

Sports events

HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens: The annual rugby fiesta, which was to be held at the National Stadium on 11 and 12 April, has postponed to 10 and 11 October. Fans who have purchased tickets for the event via official channels are advised that all existing tickets will be honoured and are valid for entry to the rescheduled event dates. Those fans unable to attend the rescheduled dates will be provided with a full refund.

International Champion Cup: The pre-season football tournament, featuring top European clubs at the National Stadium, has been cancelled. Reports say that this year’s edition would have featured English giants Liverpool and Manchester United, as well as German side Borussia Dortmund.

Osim Sundown Marathon: The night race was scheduled to take place on 23 May at the Formula One Pit Building, but has since been cancelled. This is the first time the race has been cancelled in its 13-year history.

2XU Compression Run: The 10th edition of the run, originally slated for 5 April, was initially postponed to 31 May. However, the event has since been pushed back further into possible the second half of the year.

Mass participation runs: The Income Eco Run (26 April), JP Morgan Corporate Challenge (8 April), the Home Team NS Adventure Race (21 March) and the Terry Fox Singapore Run (22 March) have been postponed.

National Sports Games: With the Ministry of Education cancelling all inter-school and external school activities until the end of the March school holidays, the National Sports Games – which kicked off in January – has been suspended.

Singapore Swimming Association (SSA): SSA has made scheduling changes to four of its events. The Under-11 and U-13 Singapore Water Polo Leagues, as well as the National Schools Artistic Swimming Championships, have been postponed from March until a later date. Meanwhile, the National Age Group Swimming Championships and the Singapore National Swimming Championships have also been postponed to a later date.

2022 World Cup football qualifiers: Singapore’s World Cup qualifying match against Saudi Arabia, originally scheduled to be played on 31 March at National Stadium, has been postponed to a later date.

Singapore International Open bowling tournament: The competition, which was scheduled from 23 May to 6 June, has been cancelled.

Fencing Singapore (FSI): FSI has axed three events – the Novice (Team) Fencing Championships on 8 and 9 February, the FSI Senior Team Events on 16 February and the Minime (U10/U12) Invitational on 14 and 15 March. Meanwhile, the FSI/Asian Veteran Circuit tournament on 15 and 16 February will feature only individual events.

Singapore Disability Sports Council: The council has scrubbed the World Para Swimming World Series Singapore event, originally to be held from 1 to 3 May. It has also postponed four events until further notice – Singapore Para Cycling Championships (15 February), Haw Par National Junior and Youth Athletics Championships (13 March), Haw Par National Swimming Championships (27 March), and its Learn-to-Shoot programme during March and April.

Singapore Canoe Federation: The Singapore Junior Canoe Sprint Championships, Inter-Tertiary Canoe Sprint Championships, and Singapore Kids Kayaking Championships have been put off until further notice.

Singapore Dragon Boat Association: The Century Race event at PAssion Wave@Jurong Lake on 14 and 15 March will not be held until the Dorscon level comes down to Yellow.
