Coroner releases name of pedestrian who died days after being hit by vehicle in Lexington

A Lexington man died Friday, five days after he was hit by a vehicle while walking on Lane Allen Road near Harrodsburg Road.

Kennith Varney, 72, was hit by a vehicle at 7:17 p.m. Nov. 17, the Fayette County coroner’s office said in a news release.

He died at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital on Friday afternoon as a result of blunt trauma injuries, according to the release.

The Lexington Police Department is investigating the accident.

Varney was the second person to die after being hit by a vehicle on Lane Allen Road in less than a week.

The coroner said a bicyclist was hit by a vehicle on Lane Allen near Garden Springs Drive on Nov. 13. He died at UK Chandler Hospital the next day.
