Coroner releases names of brother and sister fatally struck in southern Illinois

A brother and sister from Flora were fatally struck by a vehicle on U.S. 50 in Clay County after their family’s vehicle had broken down, the coroner said.

Bayley Walker, 20, and her 13-year-old brother, Bryson Walker, died in the collision near the intersection of U.S. 50 and Big Four Road Sunday night, Clay County Coroner Bryce Henry said.

The Walkers were crossing the road in the eastbound lane after they had left their vehicle that was stopped along the westbound lane, Henry said.

The driver and two passengers in the BMW SUV that hit the Walkers were not injured, according to Illinois State Police, which is investigating the collision.

The visitation for the Walkers will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at New Beginnings Church in Flora and the funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

The funeral arrangements are being handled by Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.

Bayley Walker was a 2022 graduate of Flora High School and fan of the Harry Potter series, according to her obituary. Bryson was a student at Floyd Henson Junior High School in Flora and his obituary said he enjoyed swimming, dancing, mixing songs on the computer and playing Nintendo Switch.
