Former Coronation Street star Nicola Thorp has got into a heated Twitter argument with Good Morning Britain's Piers Morgan.

Following the tragic death of Caroline Flack over the weekend, there has been a lot of conversation surrounding the amount of negative and abusive comments on social media.

Yesterday (February 16), Piers tweeted: "Twitter has so many positives & I love it as a platform, but the sheer volume of disgusting abuse that everyone in the public eye now receives on here is out of control.

"I don't personally care about it, but many do. These cowards would never say it to our faces."

The Nicola Rubinstein actress responded to the host's tweet, sharing a post he had sent out in 2018 of her on a red carpet alongside his own caption: "Miss 'STOP OBJECTIFYING ME ON RED CARPETS!' [Nicola Thorp]."

She wrote: "Piers, when you tweeted this it floored me. Yes you said it to my face - that hurt too - but then you broadcast it to 7 million of your followers.

"I got hurled with abuse and it sent me to a dark place. I beg you to use your platform more responsibly and with respect for others.

"I know you get so much abuse too and that's not ok either. I just ask you to show empathy and compassion for those less equipped or experienced to deal with it mentally. There's a vulnerable human inside everyone you drag...except the vegan sausage roll, I hope x."

She later added another tweet to her thread, stating: "Also I just wanted to add - although perhaps I shouldn't have to - that the reason I tweeted this last night in response to Piers saying the abuse he sends women online he would also say to their face. I don't see how that's any more noble."

Piers then responded to this, claiming that she was 'playing the victim'. He tweeted: "Hi Nicola, my highlighting of your hypocrisy 'floored' you so much that you tweeted back a photo of me referencing my 'ample chest' & 'pert behind', & urged me to 'flash some flesh.' I know you love playing the victim for media attention, but the internet keeps receipts."

Nicola explained her response in question while trying to defuse the situation by tweeting: "Those were quotes written about women from the tabloids I was criticising with the names swapped.

"I don't want to play a victim, just wanted to reach out and let you know how it made me feel. You get a lot of abuse on here and that's not ok either. Here for you regardless x"

Good Morning Britain and Coronation Street both air on ITV.
