Cottingham Tire and Auto Service open for business in Ridgetown

A local business is open to the public and ready to serve the people of Ridgetown.

Jacob and Jason Cottingham are excited to grow their business, Cottingham Tire and Auto Service Inc., along with manager Mike Shufelt.

According to Jabob Cottingham, the family business runs deep in his blood. He estimates they have unofficially been in business for 108 years.

“I say that because that is the earliest business advertisement that I could find,” said Cottingham. “My great-grandfather emigrated from Europe in 1898, so I find it hard to believe he sat around and did nothing for 10 years.”

Established in 1912 as a harness shop, Cottingham Tire and Auto Service is a family-owned tire shop located at 12353 Ridge Line Road in Ridgetown. The Cottingham’s are fourth-generation owners and have been working in the business since they were 13 years old.

“We are a full service mechanical and tire shop,” said Jacob Cottingham. “We specialize in tires, brakes, exhaust, front end alignments, dripless oil spraying and many other areas required for the maintenance of a vehicle.”

Cottingham added they will be putting a focus on mechanical service, agriculture tires and fast, friendly automotive tire service. He said he hopes his business can be viewed as “a place that you can trust to fix your vehicle.”

Now the newest of three locations (Tilbury and Leamington), Cottingham’s acquired the Ridgetown location on October 12 from Russ Hooper as he was ready to enjoy retirement.

“We are excited to offer our services to the community of Ridgetown,” said Cottingham. “I have grown up in Tilbury all my life. Ridgetown feels a lot like home, with nice people and fantastic businesses in and around the area. Thank you to all who have been so receptive to our moving into this beautiful town and happy retirement to Russ.”
