Councillors worry park problems will keep people away

Some Oil Springs councillors want to see the village parks cleaned up.

“We haven’t had a spring park and trail clean up since COVID began,” said Councillor Connie McFadden, as she pointed to the reason why there are so many areas that need to be spruced up.

Councillor Larry Wagner had a list of items - including areas with too many weeds and problems at the ball park at the Youth Centre - when Public Works Superintendent Darren Morningstar’s report was presented at the Aug. 16 Oil Springs Council meeting.

Mayor Ian Veen said the items should be checked with a daily drive by staff around the village.

But McFadden suggested staff should get out of their vehicles and walk sections of the village to get a better look
