New councils sworn in on Monday

Councillors and mayors in Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, and Wembley were sworn into their new roles on Monday night after the Oct. 18 election.

All three towns are seeing new councils with Wembley also seeing a new mayor for the 2021-2025 term.

Following the swearing-in ceremonies, councillors returned to the table for the first regular meeting of the new term.

In Beaverlodge, Gary Rycroft will remain mayor after acclaiming the position. The majority of councillors return, with Cody Moulds being the only new addition. He joins Gena Jones, Hugh Graw, Cal Mosher, Judy Kokotilo-Bekkerus and Cyndi Corbett.

In Sexsmith, Kate Potter continues in her mayoral role after being acclaimed. The Sexsmith council welcomed newcomer Daycie Bohning, along with incumbents Clint Froehlick, Ken Hildebrand, Jonathon Siggelkow, Dennis Stredulinsky and Bruce Black.

In Wembley, Kelly Peterson acclaimed the mayor seat after long-time mayor Chris Turnmire stepped away from the role. Newly elected councillors are Rebecca Ward, Shaun Baker, Tanya Skinner; they join incumbents Anna Underwood, Tyrel Johnson and Sean McCallum.

In the County of Grande Prairie on Monday morning, the newly elected county council was sworn in.

Council then acclaimed Coun. Leanne Beaupre to return as the reeve and Coun. Peter Harris was then appointed deputy reeve.

Ward 4: Dwayne Speager

Ward 5: Wendy Kelm

Ward 6: Dale Crane

Ward 7: Stefanie Clarke

Ward 8: Millie Turner

Ward 9: Dana McIntosh

Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools trustees are:

Ward 1: Michelle Boisvert, John Croken, Jermiah English, Michael Ouellette, and Russ Snoble.

Ward 2: Michelle Gemmell

Information on Ward 3 will become available in the future as no one stepped up for the position. In GPCSD Ward 1 elects five trustees while Wards 2 and 3 elect one trustee each.
