County of Grande Prairie residents can apply for three spots on a new committee that will review the remuneration of councillors and board members.

The committee members will consider remuneration and expense reimbursement policies and recommend changes before the next municipal election in October.

“Having public members on this committee is vital to ongoing transpar- ency and accountability,” said Joulia Whittleton, county chief administra- tive officer.

“Reviewing (policies) at regular intervals ensures they continue to reflect their purpose ... to ensure fair compensation.”

The three county residents will join councillors Peter Harris and Harold Bulford on the new committee, according to county communications.

Residents can apply before Jan. 18 at 4:30 p.m. at www.countygp.ab.ca/ boards.

Under the county’s current council honoraria policy, the reeve receives $346.46 for council meetings per day; councillors receive $323.05 per day. For committee meetings, councillors and committee members are generally paid $323.05 per day.

Both the council and committee remuneration policies allow mileage reimbursement of 60 cents per kilometre; for travel $55 per day for meals and $220 per day for accommodation may also be provided.
