Gatineau woman killed in crash west of Hawkesbury

A 22-year-old Gatineau woman died in a car crash west of Hawkesbury, Ont., on Wednesday afternoon, OPP say.

The collision happened around 3:45 p.m. ET on County Road 17, about two kilometres west of the town.

Marilie Picard was driving a minivan westbound when, for reasons so far unknown, it collided with a cube truck heading in the opposite direction, OPP said in a media release.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man and two young children who were travelling with Picard were taken to hospital in Hawkesbury with non-life-threatening injuries, along with the driver of the cube truck.

There were reports of heavy fog in the area.

Police closed County Road 17 between Highway 34 and County Road 4 for more than seven hours as they investigated. The road reopened just before midnight Wednesday.
