Couple remains in hospital after home invasion

The 75-year-old homeowner was beaten by three masked men and then shot in the leg, say RCMP.

A violent home invasion near Moncton, New Brunswick, has left an elderly couple in hospital, with one of the victims suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police say three masked men broke into a house on Homestead Road in Berry Mills around 5 a.m. on Friday. RCMP Cpl. Phillipe Cyr, said police are still investigating.

"During the incident an elderly home owner was shot in the leg, but we're not sure exactly how it took place. His wife was not actually harmed in the process. There was forced entry into the home, the suspects then fled, we're unsure how," Cyr said.

"We believe there was a vehicle parked up the road that picked them up. The victim then called 911, the ambulance came and they both went to hospital."

The 75-year-old man has injuries that are not believed to be life threatening. Both he and his wife remain in hospital.

Police have not said whether anything was stolen from the home.

Police are asking anyone with any information to contact Crime Stoppers or the police.
