Courteney Cox Honors Matthew Perry by Sharing a ‘Favorite’ Monica-Chandler Outtake From ‘Friends’: ‘I Am So Grateful for Every Moment’

Courteney Cox shared a personal tribute to her late “Friends” co-star Matthew Perry on Instagram alongside one of her “favorite” memories of him: an outtake from an episode of “Friends” in which Perry whispered a line for her to stay when it’s revealed that Monica is sleeping in Chandler’s bed. The clip was first released as part of the “Friends” reunion special on Max.

“I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day,” Cox wrote. “When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. For now here’s one of my favorites.”

“To give a little backstory, Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one night fling in London,” she added. “But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story. In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say. He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind.”

In the clip, Monica hides under the covers as Ross walks into their hotel room. After he leaves, Monica comes up for air and asks Chandler, “Do you think he saw me?” In an unaired outtake, she remains in position and tells Chandler, “OK, your turn,” before pretending to continue hooking up. Cox then bursts into a smile and tells the live studio audience, “He told me to say it! He did!”

Cox is the second “Friends” cast member to share a personal tribute to the late Perry, who died unexpectedly on Oct. 28 at 54 years old. Cox and her “Friends” co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer issued a joint statement soon after.

“We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss,” the joint statement read. “In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”

Cox shared a ton of screen time with Perry over the course of making “Friends” as their characters, Monica and Chandler, became romantically linked and eventually married. Hours before Cox’s post, LeBlanc published his own personal tribute to Perry on Instagram.

“Matthew. It is with a heavy heart I say goodbye. The times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life,” LeBlanc wrote while sharing “Friends” set photos of him and Perry through the years. “It was an honor to share the stage with you and to call you my friend. I will always smile when I think of you and I’ll never forget you. Never. Spread your wings and fly brother you’re finally free. Much love. And I guess you’re keeping the 20 bucks you owe me.”
