All 6 new COVID cases in Singapore asymptomatic; no patients discharged
SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed six new COVID-19 cases in Singapore as of Tuesday (20 October), taking the country’s total cases to 57,921.
All six new cases today are asymptomatic and were proactively detected, said the MOH.
Of them, two reside in foreign worker dormitories, while four are imported.
One of the two cases in the dorms had been identified earlier as a contact of previous cases, and had already been quarantined and was tested during quarantine, said the MOH.
The remaining case was detected through the bi-weekly rostered routine testing of workers living in dorms, it added.
Amongst the four imported cases, one is a Singaporean and another is a permanent resident who returned to Singapore from Indonesia and India respectively.
The remaining cases are work pass holders currently employed here who arrived from the United Arab Emirates and Germany. All had all been placed on stay-home notice upon their arrival here and were tested while serving the notice, the MOH said.
The ministry noted that the number of new cases in the community has increased from two cases in the week before, to four in the past week.
It added that the number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased from none in the week before, to two cases in the past week.
99% of total cases have recovered; none in ICU
No patients were discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Tuesday. A total of 57,819 cases – or 99.8 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.
Most of the 38 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, while none is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
A total of 36 patients with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
Apart from 28 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.
