Cowboys star Micah Parsons had no idea how ceremonial puck drops work

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons is coming off one of the best seasons we’ve seen from a defensive rookie, ever. When it comes to new sports, however, Parsons may not have the same prodigious feel for the game.

Parsons was invited by the AHL’s Hershey Bears for the ceremonial puck drop ahead of Sunday’s contest against the Syracuse Crunch. Prior to being selected by the Cowboys 12th overall last spring, Parsons was a standout linebacker for Penn State and grew up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, 14 miles from Hershey — a homecoming of sorts that was gladly welcomed.

Unfortunately, Parsons wasn’t given instructions on how the puck drop works, hilarity ensued and Hershey’s social team offered him an apology.

Parsons quickly picked up on the fact something had gone awry and stood there looking for help before Hershey's Dylan McIlrath skated over and flipped him the puck for a do-over.

A good time was had by all, although Parsons’ former Penn State teammate, New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, couldn’t help but make fun of his friend.

It was a busy season for Parsons, who unanimously won Defensive Rookie of the Year, was named a first-team All-Pro and emerged as the unquestioned leader of his team’s defense with 13 sacks, showcasing the fluency to play either inside or on the edge. Hopefully he’ll continue to get some more time to unwind and take in some playoff hockey as the Cowboys look to make a serious run at the Super Bowl next fall.
